Creating Shared Value through Local Content
Offshore development is opening a new chapter for Suriname, bringing opportunities for people, institutions and local enterprises, while responding to expectations for national participation and long‑term value creation.
As the GranMorgu project advances from offshore exploration into development, workforce readiness and local capabilities become essential to ensure this progress translates into lasting national benefits.
Through its Local Content strategy, TotalEnergies EP Suriname contributes by strengthening vocational knowledge and skills, improving employment access, and supporting local businesses to meet international standards. Developed in close collaboration with national authorities, educational partners and Staatsolie, the approach focuses on building capabilities that will have greater impact throughout the project lifecycle and beyond.
Local Content goes beyond participation in GranMorgu. It is about creating shared value, supporting inclusive growth, and strengthening Suriname’s institutional and socioeconomic foundations.
Local Content strategy in Suriname
TotalEnergies EP Suriname’s Local Content strategy is built on two complementary pillars: workforce development and the integration of local suppliers into the offshore value chain. Together, these pillars aim to ensure that the GranMorgu project generates lasting economic, industrial and employment benefits for Suriname.
Workforce Development
Building a skilled national workforce is a core pillar of the Local Content strategy.
Through co-funded training and certification programs, Surinamese workers and technicians are supported through training pathways aligned with workforce needs.
Integration of local suppliers into the offshore value chain
It aims to create opportunities for Surinamese companies by integrating them into the offshore value chain. It is driven by targeted supplier development initiatives, transparent procurement processes, and long-term industrial partnerships, enabling local companies to progressively meet international oil and gas standards.
