Initiative reinforces Local Content Development of TotalEnergies and ongoing efforts to strengthen the participation of Surinamese businesses in the offshore value chain.

TotalEnergies EP Suriname B.V. (TEPSR) organized a supplier development workshop focused on waste management capacity and the development of the circular economy. The objective was to raise awareness of waste management requirements and help Surinamese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) strengthen their capabilities and preparedness as the country's oil and gas industry continues to grow.
The event took place on August 19th at the Assuria Event Centre and brought together industry partners, government representatives, waste management and recycling companies, and suppliers active in the energy sector.
The discussions focused on raising awareness of industry waste management requirements, building local capabilities, and supporting the development of a sustainable waste management ecosystem, primarily to serve Suriname’s emerging offshore energy industry, while contributing broader national capacity in waste management.
Andre Glowacz, Vice President Operations at TEPSR, highlighted the importance of effective waste management in supporting responsible energy development, environmental protection, and safe operations. "Collaboration is essential. No single company can build a sustainable waste management ecosystem alone; it requires international and national oil companies, contractors, service providers, regulators, and local suppliers to work together, align expectations and standards, and develop local solutions that are capable, compliant, commercially viable, and sustainable.,” said Glowacz.
Pauline Macronald, Environmental Manager at TEPSR, presented the vision on waste management requirements and highlighted the importance of developing local waste management capabilities, including infrastructure, certified management systems, and collaboration among government, suppliers and investors to support the responsible management of waste streams and the development of a circular economy.
Additional sessions, delivered by the National Environmental Authority (NMA) and the Ministry of Oil, Gas and Environment (OGM) addressed topics including hazardous waste management, offshore operational standards, logistics services, and workforce competency development. These sessions provided further support for TotalEnergies' broader supplier development efforts in Suriname
By bringing together key stakeholders, local capacity, skills development, improved service delivery, and sustainable solutions were strengthened. The workshop concluded with the establishment of a task force that will support the further development of the waste management sector. This initiative promotes safe, compliant, and sustainable practices, while simultaneously strengthening local capabilities to support Suriname’s growing energy industry.
